Cage for Books” is a bar in the centre of the city where you can drink and marvel at the books on rusty metal bookshelves. But to get yourself a book you have to enter the cage

Created in collaboration with Boris Kupriyanov, the publisher and owner of the famous Falansterbookshop, this bar/store proposes a very specific protocol of book purchase that prompts visitors to pay close attention to what they are buying. In contrast to the more casual roaming that is characteristic of the classical bookshops, here a visitor should first select a book and only then enter the cashier’s wired box and ask the seller to get it from the locked shelf.

Cage for books is simultaneously a unique design object meticulously weaved out of thin red metal rods and an environment that creates the atmosphere of wary, raw togetherness, traditionally so much appreciated by Russian intelligentsia.
