The conversations that ignited the production of this book took place in the year 2022, as the Russian army was bombing Ukraine and millions of people were fleeing their destroyed homes.

All contributors felt deeply affected and shocked by these tragic events. It was against the background of blackened ruins that we ventured to talk about visionary architecture and design in the twenty-first century.

The project Visionaries explores both the process and agents of visionary design production in the age of the next grand narrative about how humans should save the planet from themselves. It focuses on the visions by architects, designers, and engineers, who want to change the world systemically.
