Though this course focusd on the elderly, it taught a way of thinking that can be applied to many other categories and in many other fields.

At this moment in time, we appear to enter a crucial phase: the traditional Welfare State approach (in architectural terms associated with modernism) have faded away, the assumptions on which it was based (including those inherent in architecture) are being questioned, and some policies (notably substitution) have reached a point where they cause more problems than they solve. As is the case in all advanced societies (with all their institutions, stakeholders, administrative bodies, political organisations, etc.), it is utterly impossible to start from scratch. So you need to know everything there is to know. The ultimate goal of this course was to search for the right tools and prepare the ground for the new concepts that may be revolutionary, but also realistic.

Within the course each student team created a brief for the future project (s) in a form of an illustrated A4 booklet (50 pages), which  included explanatory texts, diagrams, photographs, maps, drawings, and other materials. Every  Brief  provides the information about the historical background and thematic exploration (analysis of historical development, trends, typologies, etc.). It also formulated an assignment for an international urban planning competition and set the guidelines for a project of the multidisciplinary team of professionals.
